Networking Technologies

What is a Network?

A network is a set of device connected by physical media links.
A network is recursively is a connection of two or more nodes
by a physical link or more network connected by one or more
nodes.

What is a Link?

At the lowest level,  a network can consist of two or more computer
directly connected by some physical medium is called as Link.

What is a node?

A network can consist two or more computers directly connected
by some physical medium such as coaxial cable or optical fiber,
such a physical medium is called as Links and the computer it
connects is called as Nodes.

What is a gateway or Router?

A node that is connected to  two or more networks is commonly
called as router or Gateway. It generally forwards message from
one network to  another.

What is point -point link?

If the physical links are limited to a pair of nodes it is said to be
Point-point link.

What is Multiple Access?

If the physical access links are shared by more than two  nodes ,
it is said to be Multiple Access.

What are the advantages of Distributed processing?

(1) Security/Encapsulation
(2) Distributed problem solving
(3) Faster problem solving
(d) Security through redundancy
(e) Collaborative processing

What is protocol?

A protocol is a set of rules that govern all aspects of information communication.

What is Link?

A link refers to the connectivity between two  devices. It includes the type of cables and protocol used in order for one device to  be able to  communicate with the other.

What are the layers of the OSI reference model?

There are 7 OSI layer, Data Link layer, Physical Link, Network Layer, transport Layer, Session Layer, Presentation Layer and Application Layer.

Describe Network Topology?

Network Topology refers to the layout of a computer of a network. It shows how devices and cables are physically laid out, as well as how they connect to  one another.

How many layers are there under TCP/IP?

There are four layers: the Network Layer, Internet Layer, Transport Layer and Application Layer.

What are the key design issues of a computer Network?

(1) Connectivity
(2) Cost-effective Resource Sharing
(3) Support for common Services
(4) Performance

What is hybrid Network?

A hybrid network is a network setup that makes use of both client-server and peer-to-peer architecture.

What is DHTP?

DHTP is short for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. Its main task is to automatically assign an IP address to devices across the network. It first checks for the next available address not yet taken by any device, then  assigns this to a network device.

What is TCP/IP?

TCP/IP is short for  Transmission Control protocol is to  map a known IP address to  a MAC layer address.

What is DNS?

DNS is Domain Name System. The main function of this network service is to  provide host names to  TCP/IP address resolution.

What is peer to peer?

Peer to Peer are network that does not reply on a server. All PCs on this network tools such as PING.

What common software problems can lead to network defects?

Software related problems can be any or a combination of the following:
- client server problems
- application conflicts
- error in configuration
- protocol mismatch
- security issues
- user policy and rights issues
